The island of Ibiza is the third largest of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea off the south east coast of mainland Spain. Ibiza is a beautiful island with amazing beaches and high towering cliffs covered with pine trees. The climate is Medeterranean with mild winters and hot summers. There is also some rainfall in winter. The average temperatures in winter are around 15C, and in summer they reach an average of 30C.

In recent years Ibiza has become best known for its frenetic nightlife and is a hugely popular destination for young travelers, middle-class European package tourists and gay travelers. The islands main town is the port of Ciudad de Ibiza - known as Eivissa to the locals and Ibiza Town to foreigners. Located in the south, it is the center of the island's nightclub scene and has a lively marina and an old quarter with some great restaurants.

Ibiza has plenty to offer besides the clubs; its jagged coastline contains dozens of dreamy white sandy beaches, hidden coves and bays, villages of white-washed houses, and a green, hilly interior landscape decorated with fig and olive trees. One of Ibiza's famous landmarks are the salt flats, La Salinas, close to the airport on the southern-most tip of the island. The saltplains have been in use for more than 2,000 years, since the first colonists, the Carthaginians, traded with "white gold". Just 5 km (3 miles) offshore is the small island of Formentera, a little haven reached by ferry.

Ibiza Airport is just south of Ibiza Town and receives direct traffic from many European destinations. You can get to Ibiza by ferry from Barcelona or Valencia, both takes around eight hours. From Barcelona there is also a faster passenger ferry that runs twice a day and takes three hours
