Canary Islands Golf

Most golf courses in the Canary Islands are found on Tenerifa and Gran Canaria, but there are also some excellent courses on the islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Goma.

Enter "Canary Islands golf" to find golf on the Canary Islands:

The golf courses in the Canary Islands are often laid out next to the sea, and set up with attractive natural obstacles such as deep gullies, or the ocean itself, which on occasions crosses the fairway creating a striking landscape and difficulties for players at all levels. The facilities are usually excellent and many of the clubs have golf schools where you can sign up for classes either at beginner's level or merely to improve your swing.

In 1891 the first golf course in Spain was opened in Gran Canaria. The course was in the middle of the capital city, but in 1957 it was moved to Bandama, a few minutes drive from the city, where it still bears the name of Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas. Today golfers can find nine courses on the island within a 50 kilometer radius, among these are El Cortijo Club de Campo, Campo de Golf Maspalomas, Salobre Golf & Resort and Anfi Tauro Golf.

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, and has a number of good golf courses, among these: Real Club de Golf Tenerife, the oldest and most established club on the island, Amarilla Golf & Country Club, Golf Las Americas, Golf Costa Adeje and Golf del Sur. La Rosaleda Golf Club on the north face has amazing views of Mt Teide, whilst Golf Los Palos is well known for its beautiful yet difficult water hazards.

Fuerteventura is the island with the oldest history among the Canary Islands, it also has the longest beaches. Fuerteventura Golf Club is a popular and relaxing course with large greens to compensate for the wind prevailing in the region. Lanzerote is home to a number of golf clubs, with several recently developed golf courses close to the Puerto del Carmen and nearby Puerto Caleto marina. The main golf in Lanzarote centers around the Costa Teguise golf course that dates back to 1978 and stands at the base of an ancient volcano and has magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean, Arrecife and the coastline. La Gomera is the second smallest of the Canary Islands, but it has a championship golf course at the Jardin Tecina golf hotel.
