Most of the major golf resorts are situated in the coastal lowland areas, where climate is tropical. The golf courses in Mexico are among the very best in North America, add to this the startling beauty of the country surrounding the golf courses with breathtaking views and challenging water and vegetation hazards. Not surprisingly Mexico is the number two worldwide golf destination for U.S. golfers, right behind Hawaii. Most golf courses in Mexico are private and guests can only have access if invited by a club member or if staying at a hotel that offers access to golf courses nearby. The popularity of golf in Argentina is apparent from the fact that with a total of more than 300 golf courses, Argentina is the country in South America that has the largest number of golf courses. Golf in Argentina is played in numerous circuits in diverse landscapes. While some courses are nestled on the shores of rivers, others are immersed in leafy vegetations and forests. Although you will find most courses in the Buenos Aires area, the Petagonia, Iguazu Waterfalls, Mendoza and Wine area as well as the Cordoba area are also important golf areas in Argentina. Argentina has a long golf season, with links courses available for play most of the year. Many golf clubs have dress codes, which will be enforced. Jeans, T-shirts, trainers and collarless shirts should not be worn on the course or in the clubhouse. All in all there are a little more than 60 golf courses in Chile, almost all of them private. In order to play most of these courses, you must be a registered guest at one of the several hotels which offer golf to their customers. Public courses include Golf Mapocho just outside Santiago; Marbella Resort at the coast near Maitencillo with ocean views; La Serena Golf, also a coastal resort but farther away from Santiago than Marbella, but with a better and more beautiful course. There are no public courses in Peru due to the reduced demand for the sport. Between Lima Golf, Los Inkas, and the other Lima clubs, there are not more than 600 active golfers.
