Mount Teide is the heart of Las Canadas Natural Park, a huge protected area, 17 kilometer across, of huge lava forms, steep cliffs, vertical and volcanic rocks. You have the chance to go up to the top, the first section by cable car, then walking for the rest. The sight from the top is breathtaking, it is one of the few spots on earth where the sea can be seen from the top of such a high mountain.
Tenerife has as much diversity of climate and landscape as a much larger country and is often referred to as a mini-continent. The northern coast of Tenerife is bordered by steep cliffs, but the southern part of the island slopes down to one of the few regions of level coastal plain on this volcanic island.
Tenerife has a great variety of micro-climates in a very small geographic area and provides interest for many different types of tourists, not just those looking for beaches, but also others that enjoy hiking, climbing, paragliding or other outdoor pursuits.
Tourists with other tastes will find beaches and a great nightlife in Puerto de la Cruz, Las Americas, Santa Cruz and La Laguna. Theme parks, exhibition halls, cinemas, museums and other centers complete the top-class range of activities.
